The Millstone at Barnack

Grade II listed pub & restaurant

Dwell architects are delighted to have been involved in the recently completed refurbishment of Grade 2 listed Millstone pub in Barnack

Challenge

The Millstone is an independent village pub located in the picturesque village of Barnack, near Stamford. The building is Grade 2 listed and sits within the Barnack conservation area.  It was acquired early in 2021 by its current owners. The building was in a poor state following years of underinvestment. The project involved a complete strip out and re-configuration of the space along with the procurement of additional land to create a larger outside area. The project also includes a function suite and village store located in the adjacent barn.

Value

Dwell were appointed to advise on the design, and to prepare planning and listed building applications for the new works. Working in close consultation with the conservation officer,  The work included opening up the interior of the building, reconfiguring the bar, and converting the upper floor flat into offices. Externally major alterations were made to the central courtyard including the construction of an outdoor bar.
